Hearing God's Voice

I lost my Bible the other day. I went two days without being able to find it. Something prompted me to ask Lila, my youngest daughter if she had seen it anywhere. She immediately said, "No, Mom, I'm sorry, I haven't seen it."

About a minute later, she returned to me and said, "Did you check out in the garage in the Fearless tote?" I knew immediately that she was right, and it was in there. I walked out to the garage, thinking about how it would be impossible for her to know that my Bible was there. She didn't look in the tote, and she wasn't in the car when I put my Bible in the tote, so how did she know that?

It's easy, the Holy Spirit told her. I went back in with my Bible in hand with a big smile and said, "Look, Lila, you were right. My Bible was in the tote. How did you know that?" She said back to me, "Something just told me that's where it was."

Friends, you have that something inside of you too! It's called the Holy Spirit. When you follow Jesus and consider Him your savior, you have the help of His spirit all day, every day.

"And when you believed in Christ, he identified you as his own by giving you the Holy Spirit, whom he promised long ago. The Spirit is God's guarantee that he will give us the inheritance he promised and that he has purchased us to be his own people. He did this so we would praise and glorify him." Ephesians 1:13-14

I thanked God after that precious moment because it reminded me that Jesus is real, alive, and active, working in my and my children's lives.

Sometimes we can get so anxious because we don't know what to do or which way to turn. We try to make decisions without the help of Jesus.

My challenge to you today is to step out of self-sufficiency and step into self-reliance on Jesus. Ask Him about the little and the big things in life, and watch Him show up in ways you never thought possible.

"Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light." Matthew 11:28-30
