What scares you?
How about
Health concerns
Betrayal of a loved one
A wayward child
Financial hardships
Family drama
Divorce
The news and the state of our world
The health of your loved ones
Sickness and disease
I'm curious, email me back and let me know which one heightens your anxiety the most.
There is plenty of scary stuff in our world.
If you are not careful, this scary stuff can rule you. I used to let fear lead me, and almost all those things above would make me lose my peace in a second flat. Especially health scares and relationship problems.
I'm a work in progress, and I'll let fear bring me down every now and then, but more often than not, I can identify fear immediately and stop it in its tracks. I want to help you with that too.
I want to give you three practical ways to fight off scary stuff, and it involves three of my favorite fearless scriptures. After you read the scripture, I wrote a prayer for you to use that will immediately help you fight fear!
Fear Fighting Power
Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6-7
Prayer: God, I am anxious about (name the things you are afraid and worried about), so I am coming to you right now. I'm asking you to help me with (the things you are afraid and anxious about). I would like you to (tell God here what you need help with). I want you to know I trust you regardless because I know you are good and faithful. Thank you for the life you have given me. Thank you for dying on the cross for me. Help me to remain grateful in all circumstances. Please give me the courage and strength to overcome anything thrown at me. I'm claiming your peace over my life right now, in Jesus' name, amen.
Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. Isaiah 41:10 (NIV)
Prayer: God, your Word says to fear not because you are always with me. Thank you that I can walk through fire and not get burned because your righteous right hand will protect and help me. Give me the strength and courage to fight the fear I face today. In Jesus' name, Amen.
There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment. But he who fears has not been made perfect in love. 1 John 4:18 (NIV)
Prayer: God, when I feel fear, I can immediately know it's not from you. Fear involves torment, and you are a good God that does not want to punish me like that. Instead, I know you lead with peace. Help me to fight fear with your Word every day and walk in the peace you died to give me. In Jesus' name, Amen.
Go ahead and give it a try.
Of these scriptures, which one helps you the most right now?
Say the prayer out loud.
Do it as often as you need to when the fear tries to come back and make you lose your peace.
Speaking of peace, having a good thought life really matters. I'm teaching a conference alongside my good friends Sarah and Katie at my home church on Sept 24th. You should check it out. Here is the information: Upcoming Events.
